|
|
Philosophy/Focus |
Research on the
prevalence, prevention, and treatment of cancer in poor and underserved
populations has been identified as a target area for 10% of the research
budget of the American Cancer Society.
|
|
|
Major Fields of Interest |
Proposals submitted
in response to this request for applications (RFA) must focus on poor and
underserved populations, but may address a variety of behavioral,
epidemiological, policy, health delivery, clinical and basic science
issues. Interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged and the novelty
and uniqueness of the proposed projects will be an important aspect in the
evaluations process. |
|
|
Type of Grants |
It is estimated
that approximately 5 research project grants or clinical research training
grants and 3 post-doctoral fellowships can be awarded each funding
cycle. |
|
|
Grants Restrictions |
The proposal must
be for a hypothesis-driven research project. |

Selection Criteria |
Research project
grants submitted in response to this RFA will be accepted from senior and
beginning investigators. To insure a continuing supply of qualified
investigators in areas addressed by this RFA, applications for
postdoctoral fellowships and clinical research training grants from
beginning investigators will also be accepted.
In general, research project grants awarded in response to this RFA will be for three years and up to $250,000 per year, including 25% indirect costs. Some behavioral or epidemiological studies might require more than three years and a higher budget. Such requests will be considered and must be well documented and justified. |
