Philosophy/Focus The foundation is a corporate foundation that works to help meet the needs of the non-profit organizations in the communities that American Airlines serves.

Major Fields of Interest Community development; arts and culture; education; and health and welfare.

Type of Grants The foundation supports organizations by cash or by providing air transportation.

Grants Restrictions Focus grants in those communities with a hub (Dallas/Ft. Worth) or another major facility and/or employee base. No support for religious, fraternal, social, or veterans' groups; organizations receiving support from the United Way; organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex or national origin; or organizations lacking 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status. No grants to individuals, or for endowments or capital campaigns, annual operating support fund drives, academic or scientific research, athletic events or sponsorships, or social functions or advertising in commemorative journals, yearbooks, or special event publications.

Application Guidelines
Selection Criteria Proposals are evaluated primarily based on their national and regional reach and impact on specific corporate locations. Local offices may provide modest grants based on needs and priorities in those locations. When appropriate, requests for grants are referred to those offices.

Application Procedure The following information should be included in all requests for grants: (1) a description of the overall structure, purpose and objectives of applying organization, (2) list of names of officers and key staff members, and list of board members and their primary affiliations, (3) a description of the project, including its specific objectives, purpose and the audiences served, (4) specific reasons why you believe AMR/American Airlines would be an appropriate donor, (5) project budget, including break-out of costs and sources of funding already committed or expected, (6) size and demographic information about population to be served by the project, (7) timetable of the project, (8) method of measuring success of the project, (9) proof of the organization's tax-exempt status and a copy of certification as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, or preferably the 509 (a) (1), (2) or (3), (10) most recent audited financial statement, (11) primary funding sources, including United Way or other unified fundraising campaign support, (12) detailed description of how AMR/American Airlines Foundation's grant will be acknowledged, and (13) any additional support materials that may provide a more thorough understanding of the organization.

Key Dates No set deadline, proposals are reviewed continuously and grants awarded throughout the year. Final notification within two months.
