Cancer/Prevention/Control Projects Funded |
Two Requests for
Proposals (RFPs) were issued from the Foundation in the first funding year.
The first RFP, "The Practice, Prevalence and Outcome of Mass Screening Programs for Testicular Cancer," was issued to support pilot projects in screening, leading to larger peer reviewed projects. The purposes are (1) to determine the "extent, understanding and performance by physicians and physician-directed associates to provide or promote regular testicular screening" and (2) to improve the prevalence and performance of testicular self-examinations in a variety of medically supported practices. The second RFP, "Survivorship Issues in Testicular Cancer Patients in Long Term Remission," also is to support pilot projects. The focus is to identify areas of concern for long term survivors of cancer by clarifying disease related and treatment induced physiological, reproductive, psychological, and social issues; risk factors and pathophysiological mechanisms for these consequences; and intervention approaches to ameliorate these consequences. |
