Local Initiative Funding Partners Program |
Background |
Philosophy/Focus |
The Local
Initiative Funding Partners Program looks to local philanthropies and
other grantmakers to take the lead in cooperatively identifying unmet
needs in their communities and the ideas, people, and institutions able to
resolve them. The grant would be made to local service agencies and
would establish the RWJ Foundation and the local sponsoring grantmakers as
funding partners. Projects would: assure access to basic health care;
improve services for people with chronic health conditions; or reduce harm
caused by tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs.

Application Guidelines |
Selection Criteria |
Foundation will not
fund disease-specific organization activities unless the program is
presented in a more global context. Proposals must demonstrate matching
local or area funds before applying for RWJ funds. Projects must provide
community-based services addressing access to basic health care and
represent an innovation to the community concerned. Priority funding will
be given to projects directed toward underserved populations; involving
cooperative arrangements; having multiple funders; having longterm
viability once RWJ funding is completed; and having local government
support.
Application Procedure |
Two step process:
1) local applicant for grant funds must submit a concept paper and a brief
narrative, accompanied by a letter of endorsement and Information Sheet
from sponsoring local grantmaker; 2) projects that RWJ considers most
promising will be asked to submit full proposals. Check with contact
person for specific criteria and procedures.
Check web site for Call for Proposals and downloadable paperwork. |
Key Dates |
Deadline for
concept papers and supporting Information Sheets from local funding
source(s) is August 5, l999 for awards granted and starting August 1,
2000. No extentions on deadlines.
