Commercialization Awards - Funding Opportunities

Company Commercialization Awards:(Revised 8/20/10)

The goal of the Company Commercialization Awards (formerly called "Company Investment") is to finance the development of innovative products, services, and infrastructure with significant potential impact on patient care. No maximum is set on the amount of funding that can be requested. The maximum duration of this award is 3 years; renewal applications will be accepted.

Company Recruitment, Relocation, and Formation:

The award program described in this RFA is designed to attract and establish a product development infrastructure in Texas by: (i) Supporting the formation and establishment of new startup companies in Texas that will develop products to significantly impact cancer care, and (ii) Recruiting to Texas companies with proven management teams who are focused on exceptional product opportunities to improve cancer care. These existing companies must presently be domiciled outside Texas and must be willing to relocate to and remain in Texas for a specified period upon funding.

Research Awards - Funding Opportunities

Multi-Investigator Research Awards (revised 8/27/10)  
Instructions for Applicants (Preapplication) (revised 8/9/10)

Supports integrated programs of collaborative and cross-disciplinary cancer research among multiple investigators for projects that cannot be effectively addressed by an individual researcher or a group of researchers within the same discipline. A preapplication is required of those investigators submitting a new application. A letter of intent is required of those applicants preparing a resubmission. The maximum duration of this award is 5 years; renewal applications will be accepted. No limit has been set on the maximum amount that may be requested.

Recruitment of Missing Links:

This award mechanism seeks to support the recruitment of critically important researchers who are needed to complete existing, excellent teams ("missing links"). Institutions must apply for a specific candidate who must hold an appropriate appointment at an accredited academic or research institution. The candidate must not reside in Texas at the time the application is submitted.

Recruitment of First-Time, Tenure-Track Faculty Members:

This RFA seeks to support emerging investigators with the ability to make outstanding contributions to the field of cancer research, promote inquiry into new areas, foster collaboration, and stimulate growth in the field. Institutions must apply for a specific candidate who, at the time of the application, must not hold an appointment at the rank of assistant professor or above (or equivalent) at an accredited academic institution, research institution, industry, government agency, or private foundation. The candidate may or may not reside in the State of Texas at the time of the application.

Recruitment of Rising Stars:

This RFA solicits applications to recruit outstanding investigators who are at a relatively early stage in their career to the State of Texas. Institutions must apply for a specific candidate who must hold an appointment at the rank of assistant professor or above (or equivalent) at an accredited academic institution, research institution, industry, government agency, or private foundation not primarily based in Texas. The candidate must not reside in Texas at the time the application is submitted.

Recruitment of Established Investigators:

This RFA is designed to attract outstanding senior research faculty with established cancer research programs to academic institutions in Texas. Institutions must apply for a specific candidate who will likely hold an appointment at the rank of professor (or equivalent) at an accredited academic institution, research institution, industry, government agency, or private foundation not primarily based in Texas. The candidate must not reside in Texas at the time the application is submitted.

This RFA solicits grant applications from qualified organizations in the State of Texas that propose programs in the area of A) tobacco prevention and control or B) increasing delivery of primary preventive and screening services for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers. The purpose of this grant mechanism is to support organizations proposing innovative, evidence-based strategies in areas of the State whose population has great need, high incidence and/or mortality rates yet do not have the infrastructure to carry out larger prevention programs or services.

This RFA solicits grant applications from qualified organizations located in the State of Texas that propose to deliver one or more of the following services: 1) primary cancer prevention (e.g. healthy diet, alcohol misuse, physical activity, vaccine-conferred immunity, sun protection), 2) early detection/screening for one or more of the following: breast, cervical or colorectal cancer or 3) survivorship services (e.g., psychosocial interventions, physical rehabilitation/therapy, navigation services, palliative care).

Health Promotion, Education, and Training for Public and Health Care Professional Audiences

This RFA solicits grant applications from qualified organizations located in the State of Texas that propose health care professional education and training and/or health promotion, education, and outreach for prevention, early detection, and survivorship of cancer for the public that, if successful, would improve the practice and performance of healthcare practitioners and increase the number of persons who improve their health behaviors related to the prevention of cancer, obtain recommended cancer screening tests, have cancers detected at earlier stages, and improve their quality of life if they are survivors of cancer.
