Cancer Costs Texas More Than $28 Billion According to The Perryman Group

CPRIT Honors Texas A&M Cancer Prevention Grants

The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) honored researchers at the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) for their work in cancer prevention efforts in the Brazos and Rio Grande valleys with an Oct. 14 research grant award. The TAMHSC School of Rural Public Health and College of Medicine received $3,235,597 in July’s grant awards by CPRIT.

STATE, LOCAL HEALTH OFFICIALS EMPHASIZE IMPORTANCE OF BREAST CANCER SCREENINGS

An estimated 15,562 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed this year in Texas women, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. More than 2,800 men and women are expected to lose their battle with breast cancer in 2011.

CPRIT Chief Prevention Officer Dr. Becky Garcia joins CPRIT grantees Terry Wilson-Gray from The Bridge Breast Network and Doris Cheng from the Asian Breast Health Outreach at a Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Texas Affiliate Grants Program Community Workshop on Tuesday, May 03, 2011. The workshop provided information on CPRIT funding opportunities as well as first-hand experience from current grantees.
