VISION, MISSION, AND PHILOSOPHY

VISION

We envision a Texas devoid of spit tobacco use, its negative economic impact, and its adverse effects on Texans' health.

MISSION

We are Texans representing the public, private, and volunteer sectors, dedicated to diminishing and ultimately eliminating spit tobacco use through statewide, collaborative, and integrated research, education, and public policy initiatives.

PHILOSOPHY

The following principles guide our decision-making process:

Spit tobacco use causes cancer, oral diseases, and increased health risks.
Spit tobacco use is not an acceptable alternative to smoking.
Spit tobacco use, attitudes, behaviors, and socioeconomic patterns differ from that of smoking and sound research is needed to determine the most effective methods for prevention and cessation.
Spit tobacco research must be grounded in sound science.
Spit tobacco use must be discouraged especially among youth before they fall victim to life-long addiction.
Spit tobacco prevention and cessation programs should be designed to address diverse socioeconomic, generational, professional, and cultural populations.
Spit tobacco prevention and cessation activities serve communities most effectively if they are planned, implemented, and evaluated collaboratively by the public, private, and volunteer sectors.
